Guillermo Chacón

President, Latino Commission on AIDS and founder of the Hispanic Health Network

Since 2010, Guillermo Chacón has served as president of the Latino Commission on AIDS, where he is a vocal advocate on the impact of HIV, viral hepatitis, sexually transmitted infections (STIs), chronic health conditions and the health disparities in Hispanic/Latinx communities.

Under his leadership, the commission has strengthened its investment in national community action and mobilization programs to promote the improvement of health outcomes and capacity-building programing nationally and regionally through its work in the South.

Guillermo says his work focuses on agenda-setting on health policy issues affecting the health of Hispanic/Latinx communities.

Guillermo was appointed by Mayor Bill de Blasio to serve on the NYC Commission of Human Right in November 2019, to the HIV/AIDS Services Administration (HASA) community advisory board and the Committee on New York City Healthcare Services.

Gov. Andrew Cuomo appointed Guillermo to the New York State AIDS Advisory Council and re-nominated him for the New York State Minority Health Council to serve until 2023, where the New York State Senate later confirmed him in July 2020.

Guillermo also serves on various boards and committees. In Dec. 20, 2020 Gov. Cuomo appointed him to serve in the NYS COVID-19 Vaccine Equity Taskforce.

Mayor de Blasio also appointed Guillermo to serve in the NYC COVID19 Vaccine, Test & Tracing program, as part of Community Advisory Committee (CAB T2) and the NYC Work Group for vaccination for Older New Yorkers.

Guillermo serves on the national steering committee of the Stronger Together Partnership and the National Hispanic/Latinx Health Leadership Network.

He is also board chair of the New York Immigration Coalition and board member of the New York City AIDS Memorial.

In addition, Guillermo is advisor for Alianza Americas and AIDSVu.org, and co-chairs of the Latino Jewish Coalition in New York.
