Director of Pediatric Ambulatory Care and Associate Director Department of Pediatrics at Elmhurst

 

Dr. Maria Pilar Gonzalez has dedicated her medical career to health care equity, service, and efficiency. After completing her medical degree at the University of Extremadura in Spain, with a Pediatric Residency at Elmhurst Hospital – Mount Sinai School of Medicine, she went on to fill positions as the Director of Pediatric Ambulatory Care, Associate Director of the Department of Pediatrics at the NYC Health & Hospitals/ Elmhurst, Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, and member of the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene’s Committee on the Prevention of Lead Poisoning. As an active member of these committees, Dr. Gonzalez has combined the work of her academic interests to improve the patient experience. Dr. Gonzalez strives to enhance and better serve patients by improving immunization rates, managing chronic diseases, and educating about healthy lifestyles and clinical outcomes in the minority population of Queens.
Throughout the pandemic Dr. Gonzalez continued to seek new ways to inform and support the Queens community through the foundation of the JG Family Contact Center at NYC H+H/ Elmhurst with its two branches, the Elmhurst Hotline and the JG Adopt a Floor, The JG Family Contact Center allowing families to receive updates on the medical condition of their loved ones admitted to the hospital. She also wrote and published articles in the New York Daily News, Queens Latino, Health Affairs, and appeared on NY1/Noticias and La Doctora encouraging families to vaccinate children. Dr. Gonzalez continues to commit her career work to the education and healthcare equity of the Queens community.
