 Victoria Backus is a Nurse Practitioner with the St. John’s Episcopal Medical Group. She is a Primary Care Clinician at their state-of-the-art facility in Rockaway Park and can serve the community through many specialized, individualized services. It has always been her personal goal to provide the best medical care to the people of the Rockaways and the surrounding communities. Backus says her motto has always been to “treat everyone the way you want to be treated. If we all follow this motto, every patient should feel special.” In becoming a Family Nurse Practitioner, she has been able to evaluate and treat thousands of Rockaway residents who are patients and friends. 

 

With over 40 years of experience in healthcare, Victoria Backus began her career as a Staff Nurse. Her career trajectory transitioned her to Head Nurse, Director of Nursing, ultimately leading her to become a Nurse Practitioner. Backus was driven to continue to provide comprehensive healthcare to the community and was able to work simultaneously at a private practice within Queens for over 15 years, which allowed her to hone her medical knowledge and skills. She was able to make impactful changes in the St. John’s Emergency Department. As Director of Nursing, Backus oversaw the institution’s transition to a single unified electronic medical record. Additionally, she worked closely with Development in creating patient-centered rooms during the expansion of the new Emergency Room with input to improve the patient experience and their environment.
