Positive Women United
Sylvia Cothia is the President and Founder of Positive Women United. She is also a licensed nurse clinician specialized in corporate managed healthcare administration under Quality Management/Quality Improvement, and felt a need to give back to help young girls by providing mentorships, etiquette workshops in self esteem/self image awareness as well as assist women of all ages with women related causes, issues and topics that women are still facing today.
Cothia wanted to create an organization which Positive Women United, a 501c3 registered nonprofit, for young girls and women of all ages who can relate, engage, connect, and communicate on a deeper level. She has also wanted the current and future generation ahead of young girls to become empowered and be ready to face the challenges as well as to be proud to be the next female empowered leaders. Her Alma Mater was New York University School of Professional Studies in HealthCare Professional Studies.
Cothia was also presented the “Sept 2017 Spectrum News 1 Queens New Yorker Of The Week” for her female empowered role in giving back to young girls and women of all ages in her Southeastern Queens, NY community. She has also been presented with the 2018 Cista Girl’s Foundation Volunteer Achievement Recognition for her female empowered role and outreach with young girls and women of all ages in the Southeastern Queens, NY community. She was also presented with NYC Council citation in 2018 and in recognition as one of NYC’s role model citizens for Positive Women United. Cothia was recently presented with a 2020 Proclamation, from historic win Queensborough President Donovan Richards Jr., with “Positive Women United Day” presented during Positive Women United celebrating empowering women holiday virtual expo on Dec 19th 2020.
She is of Hatian descent and has resided in Laurelton, NY with her loving and supportive family.
