Dr. Ricardo A. Lopez

 

Dr. Ricardo A. Lopez is Board Certified in Internal Medicine, Pulmonary Diseases, and Critical Care Medicine, and currently serves as the Chief of Pulmonary and Director of Critical Care Services at NYC Health + Hospitals/Queens.

 

For over twenty years Dr. Lopez has served as a compassionate and tireless advocate for hospital patients, and his many accomplishments and career epitomizes the mission of New York City’s Public Health System to deliver high-quality health services with compassion, dignity, and respect to all, regardless of income, gender identity, or immigration status.
During the height of the pandemic, Dr. Lopez’s dedication never waned, even after contracting COVID19, he was quick to return to the frontlines after recovery. As a member of the Health + Hospitals Critical Care Council, he collaborated with the health system’s Critical Care Directors to help manage the response to the pandemic. Dr. Lopez helped ensure continuity of care by supervising, organizing, and establishing protocols for visiting physicians and military personnel who were assigned to the hospital. He is widely regarded as the ultimate team player for helping standardize care on inpatient units by forging seamless partnerships with critical care nurses, pharmacists, respiratory therapists, and other members of the hospital’s care team. In addition to the pivotal role he played in the hospital’s response to the pandemic, he also continued to oversee its Pulmonary and TB outpatient clinics, while conducting remote and face-to-face visits with patients who desperately needed access to the services provided by the hospital. Dr. Lopez continues to advocate for health care equity through tireless service, mentorship, and outreach.
