Jimmy Mack and Brian Mott

Jimmy Mack and Brian Mott met on 11/11/11 and were married the following year. The couple has been active in LGBTQ+ and social justice advocacy ever since. In 2014, they met their idol, Edie Windsor, at her annual Backyard BBQ. Little did they know they would go on to become close friends with her and her wife, Judith Kasen-Windsor, joining them in advocating for LGBTQ people on the East End and beyond.

Their roots on the East End are deep. Jimmy was raised in Westhampton Beach, and together they are a common fixture at area protests and marches. Jimmy, a volunteer EMT at the Southampton Volunteer Ambulance (SVA) for 17 years, and Brian, a special education teacher, are committed to raising their voices for justice. The pair was on the planning committee for Sunset on the Harbor for five years, benefiting the LGBT Network of Long Island. They have joined the leadership team for Edie’s Backyard BBQ, an annual event that benefits the Edie Windsor Center (EWC) at Stony Brook Southampton Hospital. The mission of the EWC is to provide accessible and comprehensive care to all members of the LGBTQ+ community and individuals living with HIV.
Other areas of community involvement include the Heart of the Hamptons through their annual participation in the Polar Bear Plunge; the Moriches Bay Project’s Oyster Fling; community service at the Seafield Center, focusing on LGBTQ+ issues, and the WHB St. Patrick’s Day Parade. Jimmy currently serves on the board of directors for both the SVA and the STAR AquaCenter.
