East End Impact Award: Community Service and Leadership

Judith M. Kasen-Windsor is a banking executive, Vice President of Financial Investments and Portfolio Manager in the Private Client Group, LGBTQ activist, advocate, and philanthropist. She is the wife of Edith S. (Edie) Windsor. Kasen-Windsor has spent decades involved with the LGBTQ community, where she helps many people, particularly LGBTQ organizations.

Judith Kasen-Windsor received her degree from American University in Washington DC. She was an active Sorority member, Vice President of the Panhellenic Council, and President of the Alpha Chi Omega Sorority.

Edie Windsor was the lead plaintiff in the Supreme Court of the United States case the United States v. Windsor, which successfully overturned Section 3 of the Defense of Marriage Act and is considered a landmark legal victory for same-sex marriage movement in the United States.

On September 26, 2016, Kasen-Windsor married Edie Windsor at New York City Hall. They met while both participating in their mutual passion for LGBTQ activism. During their relationship, the couple publicly participated in a multitude of LGBTQ marches and events. A beautiful courtship and culmination for Edie Windsor to enjoy the legal rights and dignity she fought so hard to achieve.

Her unyielding commitment to the LGBTQ community that “LGBTQ Rights are Human Rights,” Judith promised to continue their passion for the fight for all rights and equality, not just a notion for some and a privilege for a few. She continues to carry Edie Windsor’s legacy against discrimination of all marginalized individuals and groups. She made sure we knew that we are never to forget that the battle is not over until all things are equal for everyone.
