SUSAN BORTONE

Susan Bortone

Senior Director Of Operations

Northwell Health-GoHealth Urgent Care

Susan Bortone is the senior director of operations of the New York Market for GoHealth Urgent Care. In this role, she oversees a network of 50+ urgent care centers that are built and operated in partnership with Northwell Health. Northwell Health-GoHealth Urgent Care employs over 550 doctors, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, radiologic technologists, medical assistants, and scribes.

Bortone started with GoHealth Urgent Care in October 2014 and was instrumental in the launch of the first de novo GoHealth Urgent Care market, opening 51 locations in four-and-a-half years. Bortone partnered with other company leaders in California, Oregon, Connecticut, Arkansas, Missouri, North Carolina and Delaware in the startup of their markets.

Bortone’s operations expertise proved essential as the region began to grapple with the first outbreak of COVID-19. She was a driving force in converting a section of Jones Beach into New York’s first drive-through testing site, thanks to a close collaboration between Northwell Health-GoHealth Urgent Care, Northwell Health and Gov. Andrew Cuomo. To help combat the rapid spread of the virus among first responders in the early months of the pandemic, Bortone established and operated a testing program for first responders, including the NYPD, FDNY and MTA.

Northwell Health-GoHealth Urgent Care achieved recognition as a Bethpage Best of LI Urgent Care Company not only on Long Island, but also Brooklyn and the boroughs for consecutive years, in addition to recognition from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the Urgent Care Association of America for its Antibiotic Stewardship Program.

Prior to joining GoHealth Urgent Care, Bortone was the director of operations for a small urgent care start up in New York. She also worked for Atlantic Health Systems, one of leading healthcare organizations in New Jersey where she managed the department of pediatric pulmonary and worked with the system on its physician alignment strategies.

Bortone is honored to be nominated for the Healthcare Heroes series, and excited about continuing to serve the Greater New York communities with an effortless healthcare experience and a culture of care.
