Mark Henry

Local 1056
President & Business Agent

In June 2021, Mark Henry was unanimously re-elected as the President and Business Agent of the Local, representing over 2000 active maintenance, transportation, and 800 retired members of MTA NYC Transit’s Queens Bus Division. Henry is the first four-term President of the Local. He is also the team’s lead negotiator that achieved a fair and just contract for ATU Local 1056 members in 2018, 2019, 2012, and 2014. The May 2012 ground-breaking decision has been studied and referenced in many arbitration colleges courses setting a precedent for US public employee unions.
Henry’s current battle is negotiating a fair and just contract for his members that have been on the front lines of the pandemic since March 2020. At Local 1056, Henry continues to advocate for members during the COVID-19 Pandemic by holding MTA- NYCT accountable to provide Proper Protective Equipment and address air quality concerns in the depots in Flushing, Jamaica, and Queens Village and the equipment the operators drive, and maintenance members work on. Health and safety and a fair contract are his primary focus.
Henry currently chairs the NYS ATU Legislative Conference Board representing the ATU Locals around New York. He also serves as a board member of the ATU Internationals’ Laws Committee, ATU Can-Am, ATU Black Caucus Conference Boards. Henry is an Executive Board Member of the NYC Central Labor Council, a member of NY State Public Employees Conference Board, the MTA Coalition of Labor Unions, and Queens Power.
