Erika Newsome has been working as an educator for over 20 years and has a NYS permanent teacher certification.   For the past 15 years,  she has been part of parent organizations and is now an elected official with the NYC DOE Citywide Council on Special Education.  She is a fierce advocate for parents of children with disabilities and works as a private education consultant.

 

Erika is an EMT Administrator who  appeared on the MTV True Life Special “First Time First Responder” which highlighted her role as a Crew Chief training new members on the ambulance while providing care to those with COVID-19 on the front line.  She works with two private agencies and is the Chairperson of the Board of Directors at Throggs Neck Volunteer Ambulance Corps which she has been a member of for the last five years..

She also holds the title of Chairperson of Training, CPR Instructor Training, and Narcan Trainer bringing her experience in education to the medical field.

 

For the past 11 years, Erika Newsome has worked with hundreds of families and individuals conducting workshops and private financial coaching to support individuals to meet their goals of becoming financially independent, debt-free, and properly protected.  Licensed as an insurance broker/agent in three states, she is able to support families to create an estate for their children.  After passing several FINRA exams, she has earned the title of Investment Advisor Representative and works to create investment opportunities for those looking to save and for small businesses who want to do the right thing for their employees.

 

Erika has a Masters in School Building Leadership from Mercy College and has worked for private, Catholic, public, and charter schools as a Dean, Assistant Principal, Consultant, and Teacher.  Along with the masters and BA in Organizational Behavior & Social Science from NYU, she has advanced graduate credits and certifications in special education, law, finance, and an additional undergraduate degree in paralegal studies.  She is also a mother of 7 children, one with special needs, from ages 3-25 and has been writing songs, singing, and performing since the age of 8.

 

Whether is it through finance, medicine, or education, Erika Newsome always puts others in the community and her family first.
