Managing Partner

Zara Realty Holding Corp

Amir Sobhraj is Managing Partner at Zara Realty Holding Corp., a Queens-based owner-operator of multifamily assets. Zara Realty, a family-owned company founded in 1982, is one of the largest providers of affordable housing in Queens. He oversees the financing and accounting of the business.

Based in Jamaica, Queens, Zara invests in neighborhoods throughout the borough, modernizing older buildings with new infrastructure to improve housing quality. It is currently installing solar technology at every property it owns in Queens, producing enough clean energy to replace the carbon emissions of 355 homes and 432 cars over the course of a year.

Prior to Zara, Amir served in the banking capital markets group at Credit Suisse and in the structured finance and credit analytics group at Ernst & Young. He currently serves on the board of the historic King Manor Museum as treasurer, located in Jamaica, Queens, where he is also heavily involved in charitable work. He is active in the Jay and Sylvia Sobhraj Foundation, serving as Treasurer.

The foundation’s motto is “education is the great equalizer” and it has funded computer and technology labs at high schools in Queens, runs a specialized high school test preparation tutoring service for New York City students, and launched the first-ever degree program in psychology at the University of Guyana, where it also endowed a building.

Amir is a graduate of the Leonard N. Stern School of Business at New York University, where he double majored in finance and management, and minored in computer science. He later pursued a Master’s degree in real estate science from the Schack Institute of Real Estate at New York University, specializing in real estate finance and real estate development.
