Larinda Camille Hooks

East Elmhurst-Corona Civic Association

President

Larinda Camille Hooks was born in Corona, New York, spending her formative years in Jamaica, NY, after relocating. It was at this time that she recognized her calling for community involvement with the youth. Understanding the importance of being an active parent in her young children’s lives, she joined the youth sports organization Springfield Rifles & Riflettes as a Coach. Hooks returned to East Elmhurst, where she immediately became involved in community engagement.

Hooks quickly became acclimated to community activism in East Elmhurst and Corona; her first venture was as the Ericsson Street Block Association (25th & 27th Avenues) President. Her time as President sparked her interest in the broader community of East Elmhurst/ Corona. Thereafter, Hooks joined the East Elmhurst-Corona Civic Association (EECCA), advocating for the civic rights of community residents becoming President on the Executive Board.

Always seeking to increase her involvement with the youth, she once served as the Deputy Director of the Flushing Meadows Soap Box Derby and Troop Leader of the Girl Scouts of FBC of Greater New York. Her community resume continues with her past service as Vice President of the Frederick Douglas Democratic Association and current Board Member of Community Board 3Q.   In addition, Hooks is a member of the LaGuardia Kiwanis Club, where she serves as a board member.  She has worked for Butch Lewis, boxing promoter to Michael & Leon Spinks, and CEO of Voices Music Group/DEF JAM; New York City School Construction Authority; and East Harlem Council for Community Improvement (a member of the Acacia Network & Office for People with Developmental Disabilities).  Today, Hooks proudly serves as Director of Senior Services and Economic Development of Elmcor Youth & Adult Activities, Inc.
