Steve Bellone

County Executive

Suffolk County

Steve Bellone was first elected Suffolk County Executive in 2011, representing the more than 1.5 million people who call Suffolk County home. Steve’s top priorities have always been to protect taxpayers and keep our communities safe. Under his leadership, Suffolk has made historic strides in reforming government, promoting economic development, protecting our water quality, and improving public safety.

Upon taking office, Steve inherited a $500 million dollar budget deficit. However, he vowed to not place this burden on taxpayers. Instead, Steve embarked on a bold agenda to reimagine county government. Steve implemented innovative ways to do more with less. He consolidated and streamlined government operations, resulting in a more efficient and cost-effective organization. These reforms have saved taxpayers over $100 million each year. Suffolk County has been recognized as a regional leader in government efficiency, and received numerous awards from the National Association of Counties (NaCo) for its “Smart Government” initiatives.

Steve is a graduate of North Babylon High School and he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree at Queens College in 1991. He enlisted in the US Army in 1992 and served as a communications specialist stationed at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. While in the Army, he was awarded commendations for meritorious service and earned a Master’s Degree in Public Administration by attending night classes at Webster University. Bellone earned his Juris Doctorate from Fordham University and was admitted to the New York Bar in 1999. Steve resides in West Babylon with his wife, Tracey, their two daughters, Katherine Ann and Mollie Elizabeth, and his son, Michael.
